His Story

Thomas was born in Denmark on September 20th, 1968 to Annelise and Gerhardt. He spent his childhood years in the greater Copenhagen area but despite this is quite a Hillbilly.

He ended up studying law at the Copenhagen university inspired by his girlfriend of the time. By the time the girlfriend changed Thomas had figured out that law in fact was his passion so he stuck with it doing also an L.L.M. in Cambridge. Thomas has worked as a lawyer and as an investment banker and is currently doing both.

Thomas has three wonderful daughters - Anne-Marie (13), Agnete (12) and Esther (5). There is nothing he would not do for his girls - including signing up in a theater play even though he hates performing in front of a crowd. For him taking the girls to and from the daycare/school is not only an honor but also one of the best times of the day (well ok, he does not look that happy in the mornings but that is only due to him not being a morning person).

When Thomas proposed to Marjo (after having asked for her father's permission, of course) he said to Marjo that she is his soulmate and the love of his life. He thinks she takes good care of him and of his children making the family a "real" family.

Her Story

Marjo was born in Finland on April 12th, 1974. Her parents, Sinikka and Matti gave her three first names (Marjo Heli Johanna), which is customary in Finland but rather complicated when you try to fit the entire name in different documents abroad... The tale doesn't tell why her parents chose the first and the third firstnames, but apparently Heli was the name of the midwife helping with her birth (rather original, wouldn't you say!?)... Together with her parents and her 3-years younger sister Sanna, Marjo crew up in the small village of Hikiä, about 70 km north of Helsinki.

She majored in Public Law at the University of Tampere and not perhaps not that surprisingly ended up working for the Public Sector, first for the Ministry of Agricutlure and Forestry and then for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before settling down to Copenhagen with the Man of her Life, Marjo has lived besides Finland in Nice, Münich, Augsburg and Paris. Nowadays Marjo works for an international consultancy company managing donor-funded development projects.

Marjo loves Thomas' great sence of humour, huge heart and sharp mind. He makes her laugh every single day (either at him or -quite often- at herself), guides Marjo gently in the ways of stepparenthood, finds the positive in everything and never gives up in fighting for what he believes in. Not a day passes by without him reminding her of his love for her.  No wonder, she says that for a man like Thomas, she would have happily waited another 30 something years for...

OUR STORY

Marjo and Thomas met in "Mummotunneli" or "Grandma tunnel", an alley of bars in the centre of Helsinki with great terrace bars and music, getting its' name from a "more mature women" clientele. She remembers thinking that a man that good looking must be full of himself. So, she gave him hard time, only to be surprised by his clever and quick sense of humour. After that evening's talks she knew they would become good friends. But little did she know that one day she would end up marrying him... Slowly they got to know each other until in early 2011 they started dating, making Marjo quickly a Silver member of Air France. Having both travelled back and forth between Paris and Copenhagen for a while, in the summer of 2012 Marjo moved to Denmark. He made her buy a pair of rubber boot (yes, it rains a LOT more in Denmark than in Finland) and a city bike, while she tought him how to do Sauna after cross-country skiing. Together with amazing three ladies (Anne-Marie, Agnete and Esther) they live in a house at Veras allé in Copenhagen, giving the almost hundred years old house a whole new chapter...

Marjo and Thomas share values, humour (at least for the most parts), ambition and love for children (whether own or borrowed), summer house and the movies. They are also both crazy (NO doubt about that), sportif (although Marjo only in theory) and love good food (even though Thomas thinks that everything tastes great). At home they share tasks such as cooking (although Thomas' menu is limited to pasta bolognese or heating up a ready-made soup). cleaning the fridge (for some reason Thomas does this in the middle of the night), reading Esther bed time stories (not that Esther understands anything of it when it's Marjo's turn) and clean the dishes (i.e. Thomas loves to run the dishwasher only half-full claiming it's full - just to have Marjo adding more dishes in after doing the control). They call each other "honey" (although for some odd reason Thomas also calls Marjo from time to time the "house nazi"). All in all, it's a match made in Mummotunneli!
